Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
Curious about what our first session might look like? Wondering whether or not I accept insurance? Here are the answers to your most frequently asked questions.
What will our first session look like?
Our first session is all about getting to know you and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, what’s working (and what’s not), and what goals you’d like to work toward. I’ll also explain how I work, answer any questions you have, and make sure you feel comfortable moving forward.
You don’t have to prepare anything — just come as you are. It’s a chance for us to see if we’re a good fit and start building a plan to help you feel better.
What’s different about your approach compared to other therapists?
I take a more active, goal-focused approach than traditional talk therapy. I use a method called TEAM-CBT, which means you’ll get clear tools, track your progress every week, and work on what matters most to you — not just vent about your week.
I also believe that real change happens when therapy feels collaborative, practical, and tailored to you. If something’s not working, we’ll talk about it and adjust.
As a Catholic, I also offer the option to incorporate faith-based therapy into our work if that’s something you’re looking for — but it’s never a requirement to work together. Whether or not faith is part of your journey, my goal is to help you create real, lasting change and take back your life.
What do I need to know about working together?
Therapy works best when it’s a team effort. If we work together, I’ll ask you to show up with openness, honesty, and a willingness to try new things — even if they feel a little uncomfortable at first.
One key part of how I work is using weekly testing (short check-ins before and after each session) to track your progress and make sure therapy is actually helping. You’ll also get practical “homework” between sessions — simple, targeted exercises to help you apply what we talk about in real life.
How long does therapy last?
In terms of session length, sessions are typically 50-55 minutes in length. You may opt for intensive therapy sessions which are 120 minutes in length, though these are not covered by insurance.
In terms of how long you have to come to therapy, it depends on your goals, but most people don’t need to be in therapy forever. With this active, goal-focused approach, many clients experience quicker results than with traditional talk therapy alone. Some feel a noticeable difference in just a few sessions.
For many, therapy can last anywhere from a few sessions to several months — sometimes less, sometimes more — depending on what you want to work on and how deep you’d like to go. We’ll check in regularly to make sure you’re getting what you need and making progress. You’re always in control of the pace.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! I’m in-network with most major insurance companies, including Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
If you’re paying out-of-pocket or using out-of-network benefits, I can also provide a monthly superbill for possible reimbursement. My self-pay rate is $150 per individual session and $175 for family sessions. If you cannot afford the full self-pay rate, I do offer several sliding scale spots on a regular basis.
